5 staycation honeymoon ideas

It would be too easy to quote Beyonce putting a ring on it when it comes to wedding planning. So we’ll refrain and instead serve up some staycation honeymoon ideas to blow Bali out of the water.

1. Lord & Lady of the Manor

We can’t blame you for wanting to live it up like Harry and Meghan. Once the rings are on, play at being Duke and Duchess of your own domain with a honeymoon in a castle. Imagine the drama of fortress walls, castellated rooflines and grand staircases leading to your four poster bed. As a child the queen was a guest with her grandmother, Queen Mary, at Elsick House, and now you can be too.

In fact, forget the royals and follow in the footsteps of Rose Leslie and Kit Harington and honeymoon at Wardhill near Inverurie in Aberdeenshire. Ok, so Rose’s family own the estate and she probably didn’t have to pay a security deposit, but don’t let that stop you.

2. Seafront staycation

Just you, your other half and mile after mile of white sand. You could be on a Caribbean island. Or on Chesil Beach…

A seafront staycation might mean you have a private path down to the beach. It could leave you dangling your toes over the harbour wall like at Fowey. Or there are a number of sand skimming lodges in Abersoch where access to the beach is over the fence or through the gate. Tough life.

3. Hot tub honeymoons

Summer wedding, champagne in hand, your honeymoon hot tub is an idyllic way to while away a scorching evening, just the two of you. Have a winter wedding? Don’t turn your nose up at a hot tub honeymoon. Cosy up together as the steam rises into the dark night sky. It might even be clear enough for a spot of stargazing.

The hot tub at Hastings House will provide plenty of space and the possibility of a stargazing dark sky too.

4. Off grid honeymoons

You just got married surrounded by friends and family, you paid a photographer and maybe a videographer to capture every moment. You’ve spent months browsing Pinterest for wedding inspiration and if you admit it, you’ve probably got a spot of RSI phone thumb from all that swiping. Time for an off grid honeymoon, a digital detox to focus on the most important thing in the world right now: your husband or wife.

So settle down under a dark sky reserve in search of your lucky stars, or delve deep into a rural staycation retreat. This is unique, just the two of you, time. Hunker down somewhere like The Nutshell or The Old Granary and get to know each for a while.

5. Quirky staycation honeymoon ideas

“Where are you going on honeymoon?” Asked every wedding guest ever. Chuckle at their reactions when you say you’re having a staycation honeymoon. And see what their eyebrows do when they imagine you holed up in a shepherds hut, former boat shed or even in a South Devon beach hut.

Your wedding, your honeymoon, you choose. And we’ve got some 14,000+ staycation honeymoon options right here
