With independent shops that line historic streets, it’s just the place for finding something different, and there’s a busy market at Market Place on Saturdays as well as a monthly farmers’ market for anyone keen to sample the local produce. Did we mention that Stratford upon Avon, birthplace of The Bard, sits within Warwickshire? A visit to New Place, Shakespeare’s family home for 19 years, and also where he died 400 years ago, is not to be missed if you’re a literary fan. This year, the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust has transformed this internationally significant heritage site into a window of the world of Shakespeare for the 21st century. There’s another exciting way to enjoy your time in Warwick, and that’s with a visit to one of the oldest racecourses in the whole country. The course still hosts races all year round, and whether you’re an avid spectator or you’ve yet to experience the thrill of the races – it’s well worth going along. For an elegant day out away from the crowds, head to Charlecote Park. This National Trust house sits at the heart of its very own deer park, and it’s stunning.
