Holidays in East Sussex
East Sussex has it all…from medieval villages like Rye that are all about ambling along narrow cobbled streets, to the bright lights of Brighton with all its classic seaside charm. With tales of smugglers’ haunts around every corner and the kind of food that’s earning it a reputation in foodie circles, Rye’s fascinating, quaint and one of the county’s most popular destinations.
If you fancy making the most of the region’s coastline during a break in one of our East Sussex holiday cottages then it’s got to be a visit to sunny Eastbourne. With more award-winning sandy beaches than you can shake a towel at, Eastbourne’s also a handy base for those of you who want to discover the beautiful Beachy Head and the South Downs.
Set in the South Downs National Park and as the highest chalk sea cliff in the whole of the UK, Beachy Head is an attraction in itself, and if you don’t feel like walking it you can hop aboard the open-top bus and take a tour instead. Just don’t miss out on those views from the top.
They don’t call East Sussex ‘1066 Country’ for nothing, and the pretty town of Battle was named after the infamous Battle of Hastings. The quintessential English market town centres around the remains of Battle Abbey built by William the Conqueror himself, and it’s hard to believe that this very area saw one of the most significant battles in our county’s history unfold so many years ago. The abbey’s owned by the English Heritage, and it brings the tale of the battle to life for all ages with regular events, a museum and its visitor centre.
There’s good news for walkers, The South Downs Way National Trail runs through the county, and it makes it easy to get out and enjoy the area’s countryside following ancient routes and drove ways. Make the most of your holiday and book an East Sussex holiday cottage today!
