Holidays in Derbyshire

There’s a nostalgic feel to the county of Derbyshire that makes a visit to it perfect for those of you who like your views beautiful and your towns quaint. Derbyshire’s one of those destinations where one moment you’re wandering through the kind of countryside that has you reaching for your camera and the next you’re in a bustling market town that’s steeped in history.

Let’s start with the countryside. The Peak District National Park is renowned for its diverse landscape, and our Derbyshire holiday cottages are ever-popular with those of you keen to explore its sun-dappled woodland, ancient valleys and dales for yourselves. The park covers 500 square miles (three quarters of which are in Derbyshire), so if it’s an adventure you’re after then all you need to do is plan your walks and embark on yours.

If you prefer the hustle and bustle of the city then make sure you visit the very elegant city of Derby. Theatres, museums and restaurants aplenty beckon visitors, and the city’s so diverse that it’s a brilliant choice for families, friends or those of you in need of some time just for two.

For a National Trust day out with a difference visit Calke Abbey, a stately home that’s delightfully far from the usual grandeur of those under the wing of the National Trust. Discover the tale of the quirky family who once called it home, and wander the unrestored yet beautiful house, walled gardens and rambling grounds.

The county’s peppered with market towns that will feel familiar, but the spa town of Buxton is one of the most famous. The country’s highest market town is known for its natural spring water, and the Georgian buildings throughout the town give it a rather grand feel no matter which time of year you visit. Matlock and Bakewell (home of the tart, or pudding if you prefer) are also worth a wander and a visit to The Garden Tea Room is a must if you prefer your pudding served on a china plate, with matching crockery, of course!

Whether your holiday takes you over hill or dale we’ve got the perfect Derbyshire cottage to relax in at the end of the day.
