Mid Wales holiday cottages

Holidaying in the central region of Wales is a delight. The natural beauty of Mid Wales draws the crowds as visitors flock to the Brecon Beacons National Park which is roughly the same size as the London underground. But it’s not only outdoor enthusiasts that are fans of the region. The great, good and book obsessed head to Hay on Wye each spring to worship at the altar of the hugely popular Hay Festival of Literature and Arts whilst Brecon hosts that other erudite event, the Brecon Jazz Festival. So that’s nature, literature and music fans sorted. But what else does the region have in store?

There are over 100 castles still standing in Wales, reminders of the country’s turbulent past and offering a lot of choice to those looking for some history with their holiday. In a recent Wales Online poll Carreg Cennen Castle came top in the popularity contest. It’s been in ruins since 1462 but has much to offer the modern day visitor. For any romantics wanting the ultimate in prestigious wedding venues there’s also a special chapel licensed for marriages.

Head to Merthyr Tydfil for a family day out with a difference. The Brecon Mountain Railway is by far the easiest way to access the Brecon Beacons and affords some of the most interesting scenery as the vintage locomotive wends its way to its final destination at Torpantau. Take a packed lunch and imagine you’re in an Enid Blyton adventure as the reservoir races by…. Or take advantage of the stop at Pontiscill Station and take a seat in one of the renovated newspaper vans, enjoying a steaming hot brew and a slice of bara brith whilst taking in the view.

Circling back to the national park, it also holds attraction for stargazers too. Much work has been done in the area to reduce light pollution which has successfully allowed visitors to see everything from the Milky Way to major constellations. If you know what to look for! On occasion the Aurora Borealis can also be seen from the national park. Now that’s enough to make anyone starry eyed!

Our Mid Wales cottages are located in some of the most exciting places in the region. Let us help you find the holiday home that’s right for you.
