Another jewel in the Cerdigion crown, Borth is brimming with Welsh folklore and, only seven miles from Aberystwyth, has the Wales Coastal Path running right through it.

Borth’s biggest boast is that it is part of the Dyfi Biosphere, Wales’ only UNESCO Biosphere reserve and a medley of landscapes and coastlines with a strong-hold of marine life and birds of prey. It is also located within the internationally important Dyfi National Nature Reserve – consisting of: Cors Fochno, one of the best peat bogs in Britain; Dyfi Estuary where wading birds flock to feed; and the Ynyslas sand dunes that home rare flora and fauna – that’s a hot-spot for wildlife and attracts naturalists from all over the world. There’s a visitors’ centre at Ynyslas and a number of walking trails within the reserve which highlight the different habitats.

But wildlife wanderers shouldn’t focus their gaze too intently inland, there might be a pod of dolphins or porpoises out at sea or ospreys and red kites circling above! And what lies beneath? Visit the golden sands of Borth’s Blue Flag and Seaside Award-winning beach at low-tide and a mystical sunken forest is revealed. Local legend tells that this is Cantre’r Gwaelod, an ancient Welsh Kingdom that was once engulfed by the ocean.

Continue the wildlife wonder with a visit to Borth Wild Animal Kingdom, lots of animaltastic fun and play areas for small adventurers just a stone’s throw from the railway station.  Blue Island Ceramics provides crafty fun for all, where you can paint pots and decorate dishes – whatever the weather. To make the most of the local colour, however, holiday during August when Borth holds their annual Carnival.  

Take in the outstanding views while staying on par at Borth & Ynyslas Golf Club. One of Wales’ oldest links courses, this stunner stretches along the coastline and is a fantastic day out for keen putters – their Sunday lunches are legendary too. Alternatively, follow the royal lead and take a dip in Borth’s waters or try your hand at surfing – HRH The Prince of Wales did both while attending Aberystwyth University. The RNLI provides Lifeguards on Borth beach in the summer, making this one of the safest and most desirable bathing spots around.
