If you’ve ever visited West Wales then you’ll know what we mean when we say there’s no place quite like it…and Cardigan’s a stunning example of the region’s charm. Perched on the estuary of the river Teifi, Cardigan has a nostalgic feel to it that makes it a relaxing spot to spend a few days and throw yourself into the area’s surprisingly energetic cultural scene.

Those of you who prefer to spend your holiday in your walking boots will have your pick of walks in what we can only describe as breathtaking settings. Thanks to its location, Cardigan couldn’t be a better base for anyone keen to explore the history of Cardigan Bay and its Heritage Coast, but if you’d rather head inland and see what you can see the Teifi Valley is home to all kinds of wildlife and some ever-popular woodland walks.

West Wales has something of a reputation for its welcoming sandy beaches, and Cardigan Bay certainly has its share. From the safe waters of Tresaith Beach perfect for those with young children, to the immaculate National Trust-owned Penbryn Beach, you’ll have your pick of long stretches of sand that make a good holiday a great one. To take in some of the bay’s famous coastal scenery, the two mile stretch between Penbryn and neighbouring beach Llangrannog is one of the most popular short walks in the area, and the views make the odd climb along the way well worth it.

Now, we mentioned a thriving culture, and the hills truly are alive with events to suit every kind of visitor. If you fancy sampling the flavours of the region (and as fellow foodies we’d strongly recommend that you do…) head to Cardigan’s Guildhall Market which takes place on Thursdays and prides itself on offering only produce sourced within a 5 mile radius of the town. Yummy.
