Castle Acre

Castle Acre’s name derives from the Norman walled castle that was built here in the 12th Century. Set in north west Norfolk, this village is full of history and surrounded by some wonderful places to visit. A holiday cottage in Castle Acre will provide the base for a truly memorable North Norfolk break.

Set on the banks of the River Nar, Castle Acre is most famous for being the location of the two ruins of Castle Acre Castle and Castle Acre Priory. The village was once a fortified town, evidence of which can be seen in the ‘Bailey Gate’, the last of its gates still standing. Guided walks offer fascinating insight into its history.

Walkers will definitely enjoy their time at a Castle Acre cottage; there are walking routes along the Nar Valley Way and the Peddlar’s Way, which stretches north to the coast near Hunstanton.
