Our St Helens holiday cottages on the Isle of Wight are happy to lay claim to the village green being the largest in England. Others argue that it falls into second place but either way, visit St Helens and you’ll love how this community has grown up around this cluster of spacious greenery.
The play areas and the regular sports events here are a credit to this. Visit over the last bank holiday in August and you’ll be treated to the village carnival complete with sporting games on the green (weather permitting!). The funfair also visits this weekend so once you’ve competed in the three-legged race you can pop over to the fair to try your luck on the coconut shy.
St Helens, on the eastern side of the Isle of Wight, waves across the harbour to Bembridge and looks back over its shoulder to Seaview. At the mouth of Bembridge Harbour discover the ruined St Helens church, once owned by Eton College and close to National Trust managed St Helens Duver, duver meaning dunes. The Duver was once the Isle of Wight’s first golf course in Victorian times although it is now a haven for wildlife, including red squirrels. A pebbly, pet friendly beach complete with rock pools at low tide, make a satisfying family holiday in a St Helens self catering cottage. Come stay with us.
