Ryde might be the gateway to the Isle of Wight for many of us visiting by hovercraft or ferry, but stay in Ryde to discover what has drawn others here to make it the Isle’s largest town.
Its prominent seafront esplanade and beaches that stretch the length of the town in both directions are all good reasons to stay a while and rent one of our Ryde cottages. It proffers all the fun of the fair at the seaside with amusements, attractions and family entertainment galore. Behind the sand and the shops, dip into Ryde history.
Walk along the seafront and Appley Tower rises above, a little further along you’ll discover Puckpool Park and its Victorian Fortification Battery. Head inland a little to Havenstreet for a genteel day out on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway.
Follow the coast road South and stay a while at one of three seaside towns Sandown, Shanklin & Ventnor. Sandown has golden sands and the pier for arcade amusements. If lazing on the sands is too sedentary then stroll along the revetment to Shanklin then hire a deckchair and have a snooze. Head to Ventnor for a pebbly beach and explore the many independent shops and cafes. Ventnor has a vibrant arts scene and holds a yearly fringe festival in July.
If you’re staying in one of our Ryde holiday cottages for an event, choose from the transport themed International Classic Car Show and Isle of Wight Scooter Rally that rev up the summer scene. You most certainly won’t be bored!
