Glenridding

Glenridding, meaning “glen overgrown with bracken” is a small village at the south end of Ullswater, near the foot of the Kirkstone Pass. The area is popular with walkers, with routes of varying difficulty – and popular with climbers who want to take on England’s third highest mountain, Helvellyn, and the surrounding peaks. A holiday cottage in Glenridding puts some amazing hikes within an easy reach.

Nearby attractions include Aira Force, a spectacular sixty foot waterfall, and Ullswater is home to the Ullswater Steamers, a boat trip company which operates five boats from the pier at Glenridding. Above the village is the site of the former Greenside mine, once the largest lead mine in the Lake District. There is a fine selection of local pubs, too!

Whether you’re looking for some challenging hiking, or just a leisurely chance to enjoy this most beautiful of Lake District vistas, a Glenridding holiday cottage won’t disappoint.
